ORNL-Supported Research Team Enlists Quantinuum Quantum Computer To Make Real Progress On Quantum Simulation
Researchers supported by the Department of Energys Oak Ridge National Laboratory have achieved a breakthrough in quantum simulation using Quantinuums H1-1 quantum computer. By modeling a quantum version of a classical mathematical model for disease spread, they've demonstrated the potential of quantum computing to handle calculations that are currently challenging for classical computers. With support from the Quantum Computing User Program, the team used 70 qubits to potentially equal or surpass classical computing capabilities, highlighting a significant move towards practical quantum applications. This research not only advances our understanding of quantum systems but also sets a foundation for future studies that could revolutionize fields such as material science and medicine through quantum computing.
